Jiangtao CHU

Explorative Research / micro and nano structure fabrication

Jiangtao Chu graduated from Tongji University (Shanghai,China) in 2006 and received his Bachelor degree in Material Science and Engineering. Then he continued his education on an European master program ‘Micro and Nanotechnology for Integrated Systems’ consisting of studies in Politecnico di Torino (Turin,Italy), INPG (Grenoble, France) and EPFL (Laussane, Switzerland). He did his master thesis on ‘Exploration of new phase change materials for PCRAM (phase change random access memory)’ at IBM Almaden Research Center (CA, USA) and received his Master degree in November 2008. After that he worked in Shanghai Nanotechnology Promotion Center (Shanghai, China). His work there contained two aspects: nanoimprint lithography research projects and technology promotion by exploring links between academic findings and industrial applications.

The field of expertise of Jiangtao lies in the interdisciplinary domain between material science and microtechnology. His expertise includes micro and nano structure fabrication, characterization and micromechanical system (MEMS) design.

It’s a great opportunity for me to participate in the work of Uppsala Berzelii Center, as its research on Bio-MEMS for biomarker sampling suits my research interest very well. Moreover, I am glad to be in its interdisciplinary atmosphere, working with top researchers from material science, biochemistry, medicine and industry. To learn from them will give me a broader view of academic research and problem solving strategies.
My research goal in a 10-year period is to develop a biomarker sampling method and realize its corresponding device which works in-vivo for neurodiagnostic applications. The research focus during the starting period of my PhD education will be on Microdialysis biomarker sampling techniques.
